Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Matt Davis made 24 saves Sunday in the Green Bay Gamblers' 5-0 win at the Resch Center against a depleted Waterloo Black Hawks team.
Playing for the third time during the weekend and their 12th game in 23 days, the Hawks dressed just nine forwards and six defensemen.
Green Bay took the lead immediately. The only goal in the opening period came just 32 seconds after the puck dropped. Ryan Greene put the first shot of the game on net, leading to a rebound chance for Jesse Tucker, who scored from the left circle.
Damien Carfagna built the lead at 1:57 of the second when his shot from the left circle hit Jack Williams' pad inside the goal line. The Gamblers added another second period goal at 13:34 as Jake Schmaltz sped into the zone to score during a power play rush.
Waterloo did not convert any of three third period power plays, including a full two minutes of five-on-three time. Instead the Gamblers added late insurance goals. Both Ryan Kirwan and Matt DeBoer put in backhanders in transition at 14:34 and 17:02 respectively.
The Hawks travel west for their next game Thursday versus the Lincoln Stars.
