LINCOLN, Neb. - Five goal-scorers powered the Lincoln Stars (14-24-3) to a 5-2 win over the Omaha Lancers (24-19-2) on Saturday night at the Ice Box.

Aidan Thompson kicked off the scoring at 12:19, firing a shot from the right circle past the right arm of Jakub Dobes for his ninth goal of the season. Jack O'Leary was given the primary assist on the goal.

Gleb Veremyev doubled Lincoln's lead just before the first period horn sounded as he picked up his third goal of the season with under three seconds remaining. Cross Hanas and Noah Laba provided the assists after some great cycle work around the goal line.

After 20 minutes, the Stars led 2-0 and outshot the Lancers 11-6.

Nolan Renwick got the visitors back into it with a terrific re-direct on an Omaha power play, scoring the first goal for the Lancers at 5:41.

Jack Horbach shot out of a cannon on a 4-on-4 sequence from his own zone all the way into the offensive zone, solving Dobes on a breakaway at 11:22, regaining Lincoln's two-goal advantage. Horbach's seventh goal of the season was unassisted. Cam Mitchell tapped home a loose puck under a minute later for the Lancers, quickly dampening the Stars' lead.

Despite firing 16 shots on goal in the second period, Lincoln was able to score only once in the middle frame. The Stars led 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Omaha had a few chances in the third, but the Stars continued their attack with waves of offensive zone time. As the Lancers looked to establishing possession and pulling Dobes for the sixth attacker, Thompson poked the puck loose from Ayrton Martino in the neutral zone.

O'Leary read the play, picked up the puck and sped down the slot, undressing Dobes with a deke to his forehand. The 20-year-old's eighth goal of 2020-21 came at 18:14, giving Lincoln some well-needed insurance.

Stanley Cooley added an empty-netter at 19:41 when Omaha finally did get Dobes off. The Stars picked up their second straight win, picking up points in three straight games (2-0-1). They also extended their point streak at the Ice Box to four (3-0-1).

Lincoln went 4-for-5 on the penalty kill, but 0-for-5 on the power play. Ryan Ouellette notched his 12th win of the season, turning aside 18 Omaha shots. Dobes made 31 saves in the loss.
