Fargo Force News Release
Nikolai Mayorov scored 2 goals to lead the Stars to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Fargo Force this afternoon at the Ice Box in Lincoln, NE. Playing their 3rd road game in 3 different states in the last 3 days, the Fargo Force gas tank was on empty, however they still gained a point with the OT loss.
The game was scoreless until 23 seconds into period two, when Fargo's Cody Monds struck first on a nice individual effort. Monds took the puck down the ice, maneuvered past two Lincoln defensemen before firing one in glove side to give the Force a 1-0 lead. Lincoln's Dominic James tied up the game with a backhander a little under twelve minutes later. Period two closed with the scored tied at an even 1-1, with the Force leading in SOG 16-7.
Early in the third period the Force found themselves on their third PK of the game, and they successfully shut down the Stars for a third time, going 3/3 on the PK.
9:50 into the third Lincoln sent their first player to the penalty box giving Fargo their first man advantage of the game. 26 seconds later Tristan Broz rifled one home off a crisp three way passing play. Entering the offensive zone, Monds found Aaron Huglen at the corner of the net, who slid it cross crease to Broz, giving Fargo a 2-1 lead.
The Force couldn't hold on to the one goal advantage, as 3 minutes later, Lincoln tied things back up on a breakaway goal from Mayorov. Regulation time ended with the score tied at 2-2, sending the teams to a five-minute 3v3 overtime.
It was Mayorov who tied it and Mayorov who ended it. 2:10 into OT, on a 2 on 1 rush, he faked a pass, then fired one past Fargo's netminder Andrew Miller, giving Lincoln a 3-2 OT win.
The Force return to home ice this weekend for two games vs. the third place Omaha Lancers. Puck drop this Friday for Daddy Daughter night is at 7:05 PM!
