Macon Mayhem News Release
MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem and Peoria Rivermen faced off in game one of the weekend, and they played a nail biter. In this back and forth game, the Peoria Rivermen scored late and held on to win 4-3.
Macon started the scoring in this game as Mark Rivera scored on the power play off of assists from Ryan Michel and Jake Trask. In the corner, Trask sent a pass into the slot, where Rivera fired a rocket over the right shoulder of Peoria goaltender Matt Grogan. Peoria's Nick D'Avolio answered with a great move around his defender and shot the puck past Mayhem goaltender Garrett Bartus. Mayhem forward John Siemer was able to answer back as he fired a past the glove of Grogan, but that lead would not hold, as D'Avolio scored his second of the game near the end of the period. The score was 2-2 after one period.
The Mayhem again got on the board first in the second period as Daniel Gentzler scored short-handed for his third goal of the season. Siemer flipped the puck up to Gentzler for the breakaway, where he put it past the glove of Grogan. The Rivermen would replace Grogan after that goal, bringing in Tyler Green. He is the fourth goaltender to play in three games for the Rivermen. Peoria answered one more time, as Connor Gorman blasted a shot past Bartus to tie the game up at 3-3, and that score would hold for the rest of the period.
The 3-3 score would hold for most of the third period, until with just over three minutes left Cody Dion scored for Peoria to take the 4-3 lead. The Mayhem would get a power play with 2:23 left, but Peoria held on to win this game 4-3.
