Ice Flyers Use Depth to Beat Columbus 4-1

COLUMBUS, Ga.- The Pensacola Ice Flyers (1-1-1) had four goals from four different goal scorers to down the Columbus Cottonmouths (1-2-0) by a score of 4-1 inside the Columbus Civic Center on Friday night.

After having to sit out the first two games of the season, rookie forward Chad Brears opened the scoring with his first professional goal coming 6:32 into the first period. The goal was unassisted. Josh Cousineau stretched the Ice Flyers lead to 2-0 with 6:42 left in the opening frame. Brandon Lubin picked up the only assist on Cousineau's first goal of the season.

Just before the midway point of the game, Columbus cut the Ice Flyers' lead down to 2-1 when Craig Simchuk scored at the 9:52 mark of the second period. The Ice Flyers lead went back to two goals when former Cottonmouth Louis Belisle scored his first goal against his former team to make it 3-1. Jesse Stoughton had the lone assist on the goal. Andrew Schmit scored an empty net goal, assisted by Matt Zenzola, with only 13 seconds left in the third to put the game totally out of reach.

Zenzola stopped 38 of the 39 shots the Cottonmouths sent his way to get the win and improve his record to 1-1-1.

The Ice Flyers will be back inside the Pensacola Bay Center Saturday night when they take on these same Columbus Cottonmouths. It will be Ice Flyers Fight Cancer Night in the Hangar and puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
