Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears rode the momentum of a three-goal first period and a pair of hat tricks by forwards Mark Pustin and Kyle McNeil to a 7-3 win over the Huntsville Havoc in front of 2,423 at the Civic Coliseum. The Ice Bears moved to 3-0 on the young season as goalie Michael Doan turned away 25 shots in his Knoxville debut. McNeil started the scoring for the Ice Bears with his second goal of the season just over three minutes into the game. After Huntsville netted an equalizer less than a minute later, Pustin posted back-to-back goals to give the Ice Bears their second three-goal opening period in as many games. A hard-fought second period saw each team have chance after chance tuned away by the respective goaltenders. A power play goal by the Havoc's Nolan Kaiser, just the second surrendered on the advantage by the Ice Bears this season, pulled Huntsville within a goal. But after a tripping call gave Knoxville a power play with 53 seconds left in the period, Pustin went top-shelf off a sharp pass from Corey Hale to put Knoxville back up a pair with 11 seconds left in the frame. The third period once again belonged to the Ice Bears as Knoxville notched three goals in the final frame to extend the lead. McNeil netted back-to-back goals just 11 seconds apart in the opening minutes of the third to move the advantage to 6-2. A shorthanded goal from Doug Reid with 7:23 put the game out of reach and into the win column for the Ice Bears.
