Mayhem Hold on to Beat Fayetteville for Ninth Straight Win

MACON, GA- The Fayetteville FireAntz bussed down to Macon to face off against the first place Macon Mayhem. The two teams would battle hard, and Macon would come away with a 3-1 victory.

The first period was an action-packed period, although it only featured one goal. Mark Rivera scored with 12:30 left in the first off of an assist from Dennis Sicard. The Mayhem forced a turnover and Rivera shot the puck right over the right shoulder of FireAentz goaltender Sean Bonar. Macon outshot Fayetteville 14-6 in the first frame.

Macon got off to a fast start in the second, as John Siemer scored his eighth goal of the season with 14:03 left in the second frame. Rivera and Daniel Gentzler both picked up assists on the goal. Garrett Bartus made 11 saves in the period, including a few outstanding saves, to keep the lead at 2-0 in favor of the home team. After two, the Mayhem had a 29-17 advantage in the shot column.

There were no goals in the third period until Colin McIntosh scored with 49 seconds left in the game to make it a 2-1 game. The team would battle hard, however, to preserve the lead, and Jake Trask scored an empty net goal with 16 seconds left to seal the 3-1 victory.

NOTABLE STATS

Macon has now won nine straight games, and the team is now 10-1-1 on the season. They are now 4-1-1 at home.

In his first game back off of injured reserve, Matt Johnson recorded no points and two shots on goal.

Goal-scorer Mark Rivera had a game-high nine shots on goal.

John Siemer recorded his 17th point of the season and still leads the SPHL in points.

The Mayhem outshot the FireAntz 41-36 in the game. Mayhem goaltender Garrett Bartus made 35 saves on 36 shots, while Sean Bonar saved 38 of the 40 shots he faced.

The Macon will play the Columbus Cottonmouths at home on November 26th at 7:35 PM.
