The Mudcats continue a seven game home stand tonight with game one of a four game set against the Frederick Keys. Tonight's game is the first this season between the two clubs. Carolina enters tonight's game in third place behind the Salem Red Sox and Myrtle Beach Pelicans in the Carolina League Northern Division Standings. The Mudcats are 18-27 and 12.0 games back of first place Salem. They are also 7.5 games back of second place Myrtle Beach. The Keys enter tonight's game at 23-23 and 7.5 games back of first Lynchburg. They are also two games behind the second place Potomac Nationals. The 2015 Mudcats were 13-3 against Frederick and started the season by winning each of their first 10 games against the Keys.
RHP Max Povse gets the start for the Mudcats in tonight's series opener against the visiting Frederick Keys. Povse is 3-2 and has pitched to a 2.86 ERA over eight starts this season. He is currently 5th in the league in ERA (2.86 ERA) and leads the league with a 0.99 WHIP. He also leads the league in fewest baserunners/9ip ratio at just over nine runners a game (9.13). Povse last pitched on 5/22 in Wilmington and allowed just one unearned run over five innings pitched. He finished his last start with six strikeouts and did not allow a walk while scattering five hits. The Mudcats are 5-3 in games started by Povse this season.
