Last time out...

The Freedom fell 8-4 to the Otters on Sunday. Florence took a 1-0 lead on a Cody Bishop sacrifice fly in the first. But in the second inning, the Otters scored two runs as Cory Urquhart hit a sacrifice fly. A wild throw home from the outfield allowed a second run to score. Florence tied it in the third as Bishop drew a bases loaded walk. Evansville starter Tyler Vail (1-0) got away with walking seven batters as he went six inning to pick up the win. The Otters took the lead for good in the fourth as Jaime Del Valle and Jeff Birkofer hit back-to-back RBI doubles to put the Otters up 4-2. They tacked on three more runs in the fifth on a Josh Allen RBI grounder and another Del Valle double; this one drove in two runs. Florence did tally two runs in the sixth on RBI singles from Michael Pair and Travis Weaver. But that would be the end of their scoring on the night as Evansville swept the series.

For Starters...

Casey Henn is coming off a tough luck loss to the Frontier Greys on May 20 as he went five and two thirds innings, scattering seven hits and allowing only two runs while striking out six batters. But the Freedom fell by a score of 5-0 as they had a runner reach base every inning but failed to score. Tonight is Henn's first career start against the Gateway Grizzlies. Henn was one of the top pitchers in the entire Frontier League in 2014. He led the Freedom with nine wins and tallied a team-leading 111 strike outs, good for fourth in the league. Henn's 2.72 ERA in 2014 was tied for the sixth lowest in the league while his 122.2 innings pitched was good for the third most in the league. Some of his notable outings included seven innings of one-run ball against Lake Erie on June 4, seven innings of shutout ball against Windy City on June 11, seven innings of shutout ball against River City on June 29, seven and a third innings of shutout ball against Lake Erie on July 18, seven innings out shutout ball against Normal on August 9, seven innings of one-run ball against Joliet on August 15 and seven and two thirds innings of shutout ball against Windy City on August 21. Henn had a sensational rookie season for the Freedom, posting a 5-0 record with a 3.67 ERA for Florence fresh out of Wright State University. In nine appearances, eight starts, Henn struck out 38 batters in 49 innings while only allowing only 39 hits.

Getting Grizzlies...

The Freedom went 2-4 against the Grizzlies in 2014 and 1-2 at GCS Ballpark.

Leading after six...

In all five of the Freedom's wins this season they've held the lead after the completion of six innings. They have yet to lose when leading after six.

The right way?

The Freedom have yet to face a left handed starting pitcher in 2015, despite having a roster that features six left handed bats.

Run this way...

The Freedom's 21 stolen bases the most in the Frontier League.

On the Road...

The Freedom's loss on Sunday continues their struggles on the road from last year. They finished the 2014 season 13-29 away from home with only two road series wins.

Frontier League Pitcher of the Week...

Chuck Weaver was named the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week for May 18-25. Weaver, in his 3rd season with the Freedom, dominated the Frontier Greys in his only start of the week by pitching 8 shutout innings and only allowing 1 hit while not walking a batter and striking out a career high 11. Weaver's dominant performance followed a solid outing in his first start, allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits in 5 and 2/3 innings of a 10-4 Florence win over the Slammers on May 16th. His shutout of the Greys dropped his ERA to a stellar 1.97 for the 2015 season. Weaver pitches tomorrow for Florence.
