
Rascals Complete Sweep of Greys

O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (4-5) completed a three-game sweep of the Frontier Greys (1-7) with a 8-2 win on Sunday, May 24 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
RHP Tim Koons (W, 1-0) started for the Rascals and pitched 5.0 innings. He allowed just one run on seven hits. Koons recorded two strikeouts and no walks. RHP Heith Hatfield pitched a scoreless sixth inning and struck out two batters. RHP Tommy Danczyk surrendered one run on three hits and a walk over 0.2 inning. RHP Nick Kennedy, RHP Derek Cape, and RHP Zeb Sneed combined for 2.1 shutout innings to finish the game.
The Greys took an early lead with a run in the first inning. Julio Rodriguez hit a one-out double, and Zach Tanner drove him in with a double of his own.
In the bottom of the first, SS Johnny Morales walked, C Josh Ludy singled, and 1B Danny Canela walked to load the bases. RF Zach Kometani then singled home a run and tied the game. Then 2B Hector Crespo drew a bases-loaded walk to force home the second run of the inning.
Morales led off the third inning with a single and advanced to third base on a single by Ludy. Kometani drove in Morales with his second RBI single of the game. In the fifth, Ludy was hit by a pitch to begin the inning. He moved up to second on a groundout and scored on another RBI single by Kometani.
In the top of the seventh, the Greys loaded the bases, and Zach Tanner hit an RBI single off of Danczyk.
The Rascals scored three in the bottom of the frame. Canela drew a one-out walk and was replaced by RF Josh Silver on first base. Silver advanced to second base on a balk and scored on a double by Kometani. Following a DH Saxon Butler walk, 3B Taylor Ard drove in two runs on a triple to left-centerfield.
With two outs in the eighth inning, Ludy drew a walk, and Silver, in his first plate appearance of the season, hit an RBI double.
Eight of the Rascals hitters collected a hit, and nine of the batters reached base. Three men had multiple base knocks, and Kometani finished the game 4-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored.
Greys starter Justin D'Alessandro (L, 0-2) allowed nine hits, five walks, and four runs over 4.1 innings. Keith Greer surrendered three runs in 2.1 innings. Richard Bielski ceded one run in 1.1 innings of relief.
The Rascals open a three-game series against the Washington Wild Things on Tuesday, May 26 at 6:35 p.m. CST at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. RHP Dane Stone (0-1, 4.50) is the Rascals' probable starter.
