WUERFEL PARK The Traverse City Beach Bums are proud to announce that pitcher Casey Delgado has signed a contract to join the New York Mets' organization. The second-year Beach Bums' pitcher will leave the team immediately to join the Mets' Class-A South Atlantic League affiliate in Savannah, GA.
Delgado made two starts this summer splitting the decisions. In 11.1 innings pitched he struck out 15, walked only two and gathered a 1.58 earned run average. He was the winning pitcher in the Beach Bums' home opening win last Friday night.
Delgado joins DJ Johnson (Minnesota) and Johnny Omahen (Arizona) as former Beach Bums currently with Major League organizations.
A Frontier League midseason All-Star in 2014, Delgado was in his second season in Traverse City and third overall in the league. He was the team's top starter last season making 19 starts going 7-6 with a 3.25 ERA in 116.1 innings. Delgado led the Frontier League with 118 strikeouts.
He broke into professional baseball in 2013 with the Frontier Greys earning a 3.16 ERA in 66.2 innings pitched. The 24-year old played Division I baseball at Austin Peay his junior and senior seasons going a combined 18-7 with 166 strikeouts in 200 innings. At the end of his junior season in 2012 he pitched Austin Peay to a shutout victory over Cal-State Fullerton in a NCAA Regional. He also earned the win in Austin Peay's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament clincher. He spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Columbia State Community College.
The Beach Bums' home game on Tuesday against the Frontier Greys was rained out. The teams will now play a single game on Wednesday at 7:05pm followed by a doubleheader on Thursday at 5:05pm.
Wednesday is the first dollar menu night, with select menu items available for $1 at the concession stand. Thursday is a two-for-one ticket special. Fans get two chairback seats for the price of one ($10).
All games are broadcast live on 98.1 The Bear.
The Wuerfel Park offices are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Beach Bums will play 51 games at Wuerfel Park in 2015. In addition, there is a Farmers & Flea Market Saturdays June 13th-October 10th. Along with live concerts following most Saturday home games. Season ticket packages are still available!
