The Mudcats continue a seven game home stand tonight with the finale of a three game series against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Carolina is down two games to none in the series and will attempt to avoid a series sweep with a win tonight. The Mudcats currently sit in third place behind the Salem Red Sox and the Pelicans in the Carolina League Northern Division Standings. The Mudcats are 17-27 and 13.0 games back of first place Salem. They are also 7.5 games back of second place Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans enter tonight's game at 26-19 and are 4.5 games out of first.
RHP Matt Withrow starts for the Mudcats in tonight's series finale against the visiting Pelicans. Withrow is 1-4 this season and has pitched to a 4.40 ERA over seven starts. He last pitched on 5/20 in Wilmington and allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits over four innings pitched and suffered his third consecutive loss. Withrow allowed a grand slam to Wilmington's Brandon Downes his last time out and has now given up at least one home run in each of the last four games. Withrow had not allowed a home run this season over his first three starts, but has now allowed five overall and five over his last five outings.
Tonight's game begins at 7:00 p.m. at Five County Stadium and will air on the Mudcats Radio Network with the pregame show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
