Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

ZEBULON, N.C. - A three-run sixth and five-run seventh broke a 2-2 tie propelled the Carolina Mudcats by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 10-2 in Thursday's series finale at Five County Stadium.

With the score deadlocked at two, Joey Meneses and Jordan Edgerton each singled off Myrtle Beach (26-20) starter Jeremy Null (1-1) to begin the sixth. Braxton Davidson followed with an RBI double to give Carolina (18-27) the lead, but the Mudcats weren't done in the inning. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Reed Harper made it 4-2, and two batters later, Ryan Gebhardt legged out an infield single to plate Davidson and put the Muddies at a 5-2 advantage.

They would add to that in the seventh. A double, hit-by-pitch and walk loaded the bases with nobody out. Three straight Carolina singles off Pelicans reliever Daniel Lewis turned the carousel and plated three more runs. Consecutive sacrifice flies then plated two more to make it 10-2.

The Mudcats got off to a quick start in the first inning when Keith Curcio and Joseph Odom each singled with one out. A Meneses base hit plated Curcio, and two batters later, Davidson lofted a sacrifice fly to bring in Odom, giving Carolina the early 2-0 lead.

Myrtle Beach was able to knot the score in the fourth. With two outs, Ian Happ walked, reaching base in his 14th straight game, before Yasiel Balaguert singled. A wild pitch moved both runners up just before Jason Vosler lashed a two-run single down the right field line.

The Pelicans return home for a 5:05 p.m. game Friday to begin a four-game series against Wilmington.
