Kansas City Mavericks News Release

BOSSIER CITY, Louisiana - The Missouri Mavericks were defeated by the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, 6-1, Tuesday night at CenturyTel Center ending the Mavericks win streak at three games. The Mudbugs rode a three-goal first period won their sixth straight game. Forward Brett Smith led all scorers in the contest with four points on two goals and two assists and Justin Aikins added three points (1-23). Dominic D'Amour scored the lone goal for the Mavericks who fell to 7-5-2 on the season and will head back to Independence for a three-game home stand starting Wednesday night against the Bloomington PrairieThunder.

"We weren't ready to play tonight, "said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "We have 24 hours to look at the tape and be ready for tomorrow night."

D'Amour started the scoring just 2:50 into the game when he tallied his fourth goal of the season. Walker Wintoneak and Olivier Filion assisted on the goal, but that was all the offense Missouri could muster. Smith tied the game at the 8:45 mark when he banged home a loose rebound. At the 13:49 mark Steven Crampton made it a 2-1 Mudbugs lead, and just 10 seconds later, Smith scored his second goal of the game to give Bossier-Shreveport a two-goal lead. Mavericks goaltender Rob Nolan was pulled from the game in favor of Gerry Festa after Nolan allowed three goals on seven shots. The Mudbugs took the 3-1 lead into the first intermission and never looked back.

Clay Plume added to the lead and scored the only goal of the second period when he beat Festa at the 6:31 mark. Through two periods the Mudbugs held a 4-1 lead and a slight edge in shots at 18-15.

The Mudbugs continued their onslaught in the third period on goals by Aikins and David Rutherford. Missouri only tallied three shots on goal in the final period and Bossier-Shreveport outshot Missouri by a total of 28-18.

Missouri went 0-for-5 on the power play, but they killed all four of the Mudbugs' power play chances. The loss was the largest margin suffered by the Mavericks this season, and it marked only the fourth time in team history the Mavericks have lost by more than four goals.

Missouri will host Bloomington on Wednesday, November 24 and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Friday, November 26 and Saturday, November 27. Tickets for all remaining regular season home games are on sale now starting at just $14 per game.
