Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks rallied from a one-goal deficit in the third period for a 6-4 victory over the Allen Americans Friday night at Independence Events Center. The win was the Mavs fifth consecutive home victory. Defenseman David Pszenyczny had four points on two goals and two assists, Andrew Courtney added two goals of his own and Dale Mahovsky had three points on the night on a goal and two assists. The Mavs now travel to Bloomington, Illinois to face the Bloomington Blaze Saturday night before returning home for a Sunday evening tilt with the Fort Wayne Komets.
David Pszenyczny got the Mavs on the board first, scooping a loose rebound up in the goal crease, putting the Mavs up 1-0. Dale Mahovsky and Brandon Coccimiglio assisted on the goal. Allen tied things up at the 12:44 mark of the period on a goal from Bruce Graham. Former Mavs Dominic D'Amour and Joshua Hepditch assisted on the goal. Ed McGrane gave Missouri a late lead in the first period, scoring with just under two minutes to play. Pszenyczny got his second point of the night with an assist on the goal. Sebastien Thinel was also credited with an assist on the goal.
The Mavericks were awarded a penalty shot five minutes into the second period after an Allen defender put their hand over the puck in the Americans' goal crease. John-Scott Dickson was denied by goaltender James Reid on the attempt, though. The Mavs extended their lead to 3-1 on Pszenyczny's second goal of the evening at the 7:51 mark of the period. Brandon Coccimiglio and Patrick Schafer assisted on the goal. Allen took a 4-3 lead in the middle frame on three unanswered goals from Hepditch, Jarret Lukin and Nick Layton.
Andrew Courtney tied the game seven minutes into the third period. Pszenyczny recorded his fourth point of the night with an assist on the goal. Mahovsky also earned his second assist of the night. Courtney gave the Mavs the lead three minutes later with a power play goal that snuck between Reid's legs. Ed McGrane and David Simoes assisted on the go-ahead goal. Dale Mahovsky added an empty net goal to seal the victory for the Mavericks with 1:07 to go in regulation.
