Killer Bees Reach Half Point of Season with 3-2 Win
January 13, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (15-13-5) reached the halfway point of their season tonight and celebrated with a 3-2 victory over the Texas Brahmas (17-13-1). The Bees scored three goals in the second period for the win.
Dan Gendur was the catalyst for the night, scoring two assists and making his presence felt in all three zones of the ice. Wylie Rogers stood tall for the Bees as well; making 35 saves in the win.
The Brahmas' defensive gameplan made it a quiet first period, limiting the Bees scoring chances and blocking the few shots they did get.
That was not the case in the second period.
The Bees came out and struck twice in the first 50 seconds of the period to grab the lead. The first goal came courtesy of leading goal scorer Aaron Lee when he tipped a Mike Wilson point shot past Brahmas goaltender Steve Silverthorn. The goal was Lee's 17th of the season.
The second came when Brandon Campos took a Gendur feed and placed up over the shoulder of the still reeling Silverthorn.
Texas was able to cut the lead in half 8:55 into the second when Jordan Kary scored on a penalty shot, but Tomas Klempa answered for the Bees when he potted a rebound in front of a net mouth scramble late in the second.
The Brahmas managed to rally in the third when Chad Woollard took advantage of a turnover in the Bees zone to cut the score to 3-2 but it proved too little too late.
The Bees will end their short home stand Saturday night when the Brahmas return for a rematch. Puck drop will be 7:30.
