January 13, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bloomington Blaze News Release
FORT WAYNE, Indiana - The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, opened the second half of the Central Hockey League season on Friday night with a road victory over the circuit's top team in a 2-1 decision over the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday night at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
The Blaze opened the scoring with 11:26 left in the first period by taking advantage of a Komet turnover as Jordy Trottier scored on a breakaway with a backhanded top-shelf goal. The Komets evened the game in similar fashion with 8:54 left in the middle period when Artem Podshendyalov snuck behind the Blaze defense and scored a top-shelf breakaway of his own.
Bloomington took a 2-1 lead with 14:42 left in the 3rd when Kyle Laughlin poked in a rebound on a wrap-around attempt by Travis Granbois for Laughlin's 13th goal of the season. The Blaze held off a furious extra-attacker rush over the last minute and a half to preserve their third road win, evening the season series with the Komets at 3-3-0.
Brian Mahoney-Wilson earned his second win for the Blaze with 41 saves. Veteran Komet netminder Nick Boucher fell to 19-9-1 with a 21-save effort.
The Blaze return to U.S. Cellular Coliseum for divisional contests on Saturday and Sunday.
