Allen Americans News Release
Independence, Missouri - The Allen Americans began the second half of the CHL season Friday night on the road, in an intense game against the Missouri Mavericks. With numerous roughing calls against both clubs, a fight and 10 goals scored between the two clubs, the action was more akin to a playoff matchup than a midseason contest.
Friday night's game also saw the return of goaltender James Reid to the Americans roster. Reid was reassigned this week from the Lake Erie Monsters where he's spent the majority of the season with the Americans AHL affiliate.
Missouri jumped on the board first when Dave Pszenyczny scored at the 4:18 mark of the first period assisted by Dale Mahovsky and Brandon Coccimiglio. Eight minutes later the Americans answered back when Bruce Graham found the back of the net off a redirection at 12:44 of the first period, assists were credited to Dominic D'Amour and Joshua Hepditch. Missouri battled back to take the lead again with 1:59 remaining in the opening period off a goal by Ed McGrane, assisted by Sebastian Thinel and Dave Pszenyczny. As the period ended, Missouri led on the scoreboard 2-1 and in shots on goal 17-14.
Missouri extended their lead to 3-1 near the midway point of the game when Dave Pszenyczny scored his second goal of the night at 7:51 of the second period, assisted by Brandon Coccimiglio and Patrick Schafer. As the intensity on the ice continued to escalate, the Americans fed off of it and roared back with three unanswered goals in less than five minutes to take the lead 4-3 by the end of the second period. First it was Joshua Hepditch scoring on the power play at the 10:24 mark, assisted by Dominic D'Amour and Nick Layton. Jarret Lukin scored at the 13:17 mark of the second period to tie the game 3-3, assists by Nick Layton and Brian McMillin. Then Nick Layton capped off the scoring for Allen in the period at the 15:51 mark to take the 4-3 lead, assists went to Jarret Lukin and Jason Deitsch. Missouri again outshot the Americans in the period, 18-12 for a two period total 35-26.
Missouri fired right back in the third period, tying the game 4-4 at 7:02 on a goal by Andrew Courtney, assisted by Dale Mahovsky and Dave Pszenyczny. Then Courtney notched his second goal of the night, on the power play at 9:46 to put the Mavericks back in the lead for the final time 5-4. With Reid pulled from the Allen net, Dale Mahovsky scored an empty netter to cement the win for Missouri, assisted by Sebastian Thinel to give Missouri the 6-4 lead at 18:53. Missouri outshot the Americans through the third period again, 13-7 for a game total of 48-33.
The Americans now head to Tulsa to take on the Oilers Saturday night at 7:35PM.
