Gems Game #34, Road Game #19 - Dayton Gems at Quad City Mallards

Team Record 12-14-7, 31pts, 6th in Turner Conference

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems begin a three game weekend with a pair of road games against the second place Quad City Mallards inside the iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois on Friday.

Skating into action for the first time since the 2012 CHL All Star Break, the Gems are coming off an overtime loss to the first place Komets last Sunday in the conclusion of the three game series with Fort Wayne, which saw the Gems take three out of the possible six points away for the Turner Conference standings.

Gameday In Quad City

The Gems (12-14-7) are 2-2-2 this season against the Mallards and are 1-1-0 inside the iWireless Center.

The Mallards (19-12-1) are coming off a big 6-1 over Missouri and have played to a 9-5-1 record in front of their home crowd. Also skating into Friday night's game, the Mallards special teams have proven dangerous with their powerplay ranked third in the CHL (23.1%). Quad City's Brandon Marino also currently leads the league in goals (22) and was named the 2012 CHL All Star Game MVP for scoring the game-winner on Wednesday night in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

Gems Game Notes

All Star Lutes - Dayton forward Brett Lutes represented the Gem City well on Wednesday night as the lone Gems player participating in the 2012 All Star Game. Lutes would earn two assists and a +5 rating.

New Guys! - The Gems welcome fresh blood to the roster with the addition of forwards Robin Richards and David Nimmo.

Scorin' Surma - Dayton's Damian Surma continues to the lead the Gems in goals scored with 18, and is tied for second in the CHL for goals, just three behind league leader Brandon Marino of the Quad City Mallards.

Powerplay Master - Brandon Naurato remains second best in the CHL in powerplay goals with 8 .

Komet Klobberer - Gems netminder Larry Sterling made a season high 45 saves between the pipes to propel his club to the victory over the Komets last Friday night. His 42 saves on last Saturday night give him a combined 87 saves this weekend against the Komets.
