INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks (31-28-2-2) romped over the Quad City Mallards (20-40-3-1) in the teams' final meeting, taking the Sunday matinee by a 8-0 score in front of a sellout crowd of 5,800 on Racing Day at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

Shawn Pauly led the offensive onslaught with two goals, and Jared VanWormer, Corey Durocher and Greg Betzold all posted three-point efforts in the contest. Adam Carlson recorded his first shutout of the season, turning away 22 shots in the win.

The Mavericks popped three pucks into the net in the first frame, VanWormer scoring first on the power play then followed by goals from Durocher and Jordan Kwas in quick succession later in the frame to seize control with a 3-0 edge.

The cushion more than doubled in the second stanza as the Mavs lit the lamp four times - twice from Pauly sandwiched by a score from Matt Robertson and one from Mark Cooper toward the end of the frame. The home side owned a comfortable 7-0 lead through 40 minutes of play in addition to a 28-14 lead in shots on goal.

Patch Alber punctuated the win with his fifth goal of the campaign, coming 7:29 into the final period to produce the 8-0 final score.

The Mavericks return to action on Tuesday as they host the Wichita Thunder to close out the season series for the year.
