Allen Americans News Release
Loveland, Colorado - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, fell short against the Colorado Eagles on Saturday night by a score of 5-4 in Colorado.
The game began with the defenses leading the way for each team. Both teams were strong on the puck, had very few turnovers, and both goalies came out hot. It wasn't until late in the period that the tie was broken with a goal from Julien Nantel of the Eagles. They would remain ahead for the remainder of the period.
The second period is when things began to heat up a little bit offensively for both teams. Halfway through, the Eagles fell into some penalty trouble, but were able to score a shorthanded goal to put them up 2-0. Minutes later, they fell into more penalty trouble, but weren't as fortunate this time. Eric Roy was able to score on a shot from the point due to a nice screen in front of the Eagles goalie. Just 30 seconds later, the Americans scored on another power play goal by JC Campagna to tie the game at two apiece. From here, the physicality picked up. After a scrum behind the Americans net, Allen headed to yet another power play. Thirty seconds later, JC Campagna was able to find the back of the net for his second of the night to put the Americans up 3-2.
The Eagles dominated the third period as they went on to score three unanswered goals of their own. Halfway through the third the regained the lead by a score of 5-3. The Americans were able to pull within one late in the third with a goal from Guptill, but it was too late as the Eagles went on to win the game 5-4.
The Americans face off against the Eagles again tomorrow at 8:05 CST.Â
