Mavs Roll Past Mallards

MOLINE, Ill. - Shawn Pauly scored twice and Adam Carlson made 22 saves as the host Kansas City Mavericks (31-28-4) blanked the Quad City Mallards (20-40-4) 8-0 Sunday.

The Mavericks never looked back after jumping out to a 3-0 first period lead. Jared VanWormer tipped in the opening goal on the power play at 10:56 of the first. Corey Durocher pounced on a loose puck in the crease to double the Kansas City lead at 15:28. The gap stretched to 3-0 when Jordan Kwas buried VanWormer's centering pass at 16:56.

The Mavericks broke loose for four second period goals. Matt Robertson scored the fourth Kansas City goal by swooping into the goalmouth off the right wing at 6:54 of the second. Just 37 seconds later, Shawn Pauly caught Mallard goaltender C.J. Motte out of the crease. Pauly not only extended the Mavs' lead to 5-0 but also triggered Motte's replacement by Eric Hartzell. Pauly struck again on a rebound at 9:18 of the middle frame. Mark Cooper rifled Kansas City's seventh in under the crossbar at 15:44.

Patch Alber's close range goal capped off the afternoon for the Mavericks at 7:29 of the third period.

The Mallards return to action on the road Friday night against the Tulsa Oilers. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night, April 4 at 6:35 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush. Fans can enjoy $1 10-ounce beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during that game
