Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks lost to the Quad City Mallards by a score of 8-3 Saturday night at Independence Events Center in the final regular game between the two teams this season. The Mallards scored three goals in the second and third periods to rout the Mavericks in their worst home loss in over two years. Patrick Schafer, Ed McGrane and Brandon Coccimiglio were the lone Mavs to score in the loss.
The Mallards established a two-goal lead in the first period with goals from Eric Giosa and Jared Brown within five minutes of each other at the 13:27 and 18:24 marks of the first period. The Mavs outshot the Mallards 15-11 in the opening period.
Mickey Lang extended the Mallards lead to 3-0 12 minutes into the second period. John Snowden added a power play goal just over a minute later to extend the lead to 4-0 in Quad City's favor. The Mallards' fourth goal chased Mavs goaltender Charlie Effinger from the net. He was replaced by Jakub Macek, who appeared in his first game for Missouri since being acquired on January 19.
Missouri got goals from Patrick Schafer, Ed McGrane and Brandon Coccimiglio, but Quad City added goals of their own from Brandon Marino and Jared Brown in the period, as well. The Mallards skated to an 8-3 victory over the Mavericks.
The eight goals allowed by Missouri were the second-most allowed in a home game by the Mavericks in franchise history.
The Mavs host the Arizona Sundogs for two games on Friday and Saturday next weekend, before closing out their seven-game home stand against the Rapid City Rush on February 7.
