INDEPENDENCE, MO - Brandon Marino scored once and added three assists and Jared Brown and John Snowden both provided two goals and one assist as the Quad City Mallards routed the host Missouri Mavericks 8-3 Saturday night to complete a two game weekend sweep of the Mavericks. With the win, the fourth place Mallards improved to 23-16-1 (47 points) and pulled within one point of the third place Mavericks in the Turner Conference standings.

The Mallards rolled to a 5-0 lead over the first two periods. Eric Giosa pounced on a rebound to open the scoring with the first of four Mallard power play goals at 13:27 of the first period. The lead doubled when Jared Brown finished off a 2-on-1 18:24 of the first.

Mickey Lang scored from the right wing circle to extend the lead to 3-0 at 12:35 of the second period. Snowden ripped another power play goal from the left wing circle just 66 seconds later. After the fourth Mallard goal, Jakub Macek replaced starter Charlie Effinger in the Maverick net. Macek was beaten for the first time when Snowden struck again- this time driving the puck home with just 47 seconds left in the second after his initial shot was blocked to make it 5-0.

A fractious third period produced six goals in the final eight minutes as well as 47 minutes in penalties between the two teams. Brandon Coccimiglio scored the first Maverick goal from the side of the net at the 12 minute mark of the third. Marino responded for the Mallards from close range to make it 6-1 just a minute and a half later. A mere 11 seconds after Marino's goal, Missouri's Patrick Schafer converted Andrew Favot's centering pass to reduce the gap to 6-2. The Mallards would reply, in turn, with back-to-back power play goals- Jared Brown blasted the puck in under the cross bar at 15:21 and Taylor Vichorek jammed the puck in from the doorstep at 17:12. The Mavericks' power play paid off for the first time with just 17 seconds left when Ed McGrane scored from the right wing circle, but even in the wake of that goal that Mallards still walked away with a one-sided victory.

Not to be lost in Quad City's offensive explosion was the work of Mallard goaltender David Brown, who made 42 saves.

The Mallards return to action tomorrow evening in Wichita against the Thunder. The Mallards next play on home ice next Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets
