Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks dropped yet another home contest against the Quad City Mallards, losing 4-1. Brandon Coccimiglio scored the lone goal for the Mavericks and Brian Mahoney-Wilson made 38 saves in the game in front of 5,015 fans at Independence Events Center. The Mavs will hit the road for two games in their next two nights, with Saturday night's game played at the Mallards home arena in Moline, Illinois and Sunday's contest in Evansville, Indiana at the Evansville IceMen before returning home for their fourth game in five nights against the Laredo Bucks.
The Mallards got on the scoreboard first in a bizarre way, as a Brandon Marino shot bounced off of the end boards, over the net off of goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson's back and into the net for a goal. Assists went to Justin Hofstetter and Jared Brown. Quad City outshot the Mavericks 11-7 in the period.
Brandon Coccimiglio tied things up 10:56 into the second period. Ryan Jardine and David Pszenyczny were credited with the assists. Jardine's helper was his 300th career professional point. The Mavs outshot the Mallards 12-9 in the period.
The Mallards broke the scoreless tie at the 7:52 mark of the third period on Marino's second goal of the contest. Justin Chwedoruk and Brown assisted on the goal. The Mallards doubled their lead with six minutes to go in regulation on a goal by Brown off of a turnover in the Mavs' defensive zone. The goal was unassisted. Eric Giosa put the game away with 2:51 remaining in regulation on a goal assisted by John Snowden. With just over a minute remaining in the game, three fights erupted. Carlyle Lewis and Sebastien Thinel both received game misconducts for the Mavs.
The Mavs now travel to Moline, Illinois for game two of their home-and-home set with the Mallards. On Sunday, the Mavs head across the Illinois-Indiana border to Evansville to face the IceMen. The Mavs return home on Tuesday, starting a two-game home set with the Laredo Bucks. Game two will be on Saturday, December 23. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at the state-of-the-art Independence Events Center where parking is always free. Tickets are still available via Ticketmaster.
