Bucks Fall to Rapid City

LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, fell to the Rapid City Rush 6-2.

The Laredo Bucks and the Rapid City Rush faced each other for the second time this season Friday night at the Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks had beaten the Rush in their previous meeting on Wednesday by the score of 4-3.

The Laredo Bucks were the first to strike, when Joseph Harcharik scored a powerplay goal at 3:57 in the opening frame. Harcharik was assisted by Erik Boisvert and Matt Pierce on the goal. This was the second goal in two games for the first year Buck, which gave Laredo a 1-0 lead. Shawn Limpright would score two even strength goals for the Rush to give them a 2-1 lead to end the first. The Bucks outshot the Rush 15-8 in the period.

The Bucks quickly tied the game 2-2 at 2:45 in the second period. Mark Nebus scored the goal for Laredo, Rusty Masters had the assist. But Mike Vaskivuo found the net twice in the second period for the Rush. Vaskivuo scored an even strength goal at 8:19 and a powerplay goal at 11:15 giving the Rush a 4-2 lead. The Rush outshot the Bucks 13-6 in the second.

The Bucks tried to battle back in the third period, but were unsuccessful. Jeff Kyrzakos scored at 17:17 and Mike Vaskivuo found the empty net at 17:41 for the Rush. The Rush narrowly outshot the Bucks 31-30 in the game.

The Laredo Bucks will now begin a six game roadtrip. They will face the Allen Americans in Dallas Saturday night before heading to Missouri for two games. The Bucks next home game will be Saturday January 7th at 7:30pm, when they face the Americans at the LEA.
