Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS- Behind four different goal scorers and a solid effort from all three lines, Wichita (15-7-0) beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (10-9-4) 4-1 Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Wichita earned its league leading 11th win on home ice and kept the Killer Bees spiraling as they drop their seventh straight contest.

Chris Greene got things started for Wichita in the first period as Alex Bourret batted a loose puck into the slot and Greene banged it home for his first goal of the season. Wichita's third line played a sound game Tuesday night and was rewarded with a goal tonight. Despite playing a man short due to an injury to captain Daniel Tetrault, Wichita got off to a good start and is now 7-4-0 when scoring first.

The Killer Bees answered in the second as David Marshall scored at the 1:47 mark to tie the game at one. Wichita was then presented with the first power play of the night and capitalized. Jarred Mohr (3) gave Wichita a 2-1 lead half way through the second period when he one-timed a Brett Hemingway pass through Rio Grande goalie Dan Dunn. Two of the Thunder's top scoring threats were in the penalty box at the time, but scored just its seventh power play goal on home ice. Wichita went two-for-two with the man advantage as they would add another later in the game.

Halfway through the third period, Matt Summers (6) extended the Thunder lead to 3-1 as he hopped on a rebound, squeaked it through Dunn over the goal line before he was able to reach back with his catching mit. Coming into the game, Wichita was ranked dead last on the power play on home ice, but added two tonight and now have 18 power play goals overall for the season. Thomas Beauregard (10) added an empty net goal and Wichita claimed its 15th victory of the season with a 4-1 win. Wichita has won three straight, all on home ice and closes out its four game homestand Saturday evening.

Wichita and Rio Grande Valley will square off again tomorrow night at 7:05pm before the Thunder head on the road to Texas to start a three game road swing. For tickets to Saturday's game against the Killer Bees, go to the INTRUST Bank Arena box office, call 755-SEAT or go to www.selectaseat.com.
