Mallards Surge Past Missouri 4-1

December 16, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (December 16, 2011) - Brandon Marino scored twice, Jared Brown provided a goal and two assists and the Quad City Mallards ripped off three unanswered third period goals on the way to a 4-1 win over the host Missouri Mavericks Friday night.

Marino pounced on a rebound to snap a 1-1 tie and kick off the Mallards' third period onslaught at 7:52 of the final frame.

Brown provided some insurance by rifling the puck home from the right wing circle at 13:30.

Eric Giosa finished off the Mavericks with a goal from the slot with just less than three minutes remaining.

It was Marino who had gotten the Mallards off to a strong start- he scored the first goal of the game on the power play at 13:46 of the first period when his shot ricocheted off the back glass, off the top of the net and finally off Missouri goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson before crossing the goal line.

Brandon Coccimiglio tied the game at one by burying Ryan Jardine's centering pass at 10:56 of the second period, but the Mavericks would have no response to the Mallards' third period outburst.

Sean Flanagan was activated by the Mallards Friday and played against Missouri Friday evening after missing nine games while on injured reserve (concussion).

The Mallards will host the Mavericks tomorrow evening at 7:05 p.m.
