Mavericks Weekly: Home Opener Friday Night

The weekend has finally arrived for the Mavericks home opener. Missouri will play host to the Wichita Thunder on Friday and Saturday in the opening events at the brand-new Independence Events Center. The Mavericks have a pair of wins after the team's nine-game road trip that started the season. Both wins were against the Thunder in Wichita on October 30 and 31 where the Mavericks outscored the Thunder by a combined score of 8-1. Missouri is led by Chad Hinz who has 10 points (4-6=10) in nine games and leads the team with four goals.

Friday, November 6- Missouri 2 at Rio Grande Valley 6

The Missouri Mavericks were defeated by the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Friday night, 6-2, at Dodge Arena. Killer Bees' goaltender Andy Franck stopped 34 of 36 shots for his second win of the season and the Bees improved to 4-3-0 including three straight victories. Missouri was looking for the team's third straight win, but couldn't overcome four first-period goals and fell to 2-6-0 on the season.

Saturday, November 7 - Missouri 3 at Rio Grade Valley 4 - OT

The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees tallied three power play goals and defeated the Missouri Mavericks, 4-3, in overtime Saturday night at Dodge Arena. It was the first time this season the Mavericks needed extra time to determine the winner, however Daymen Rycroft scored his second power play goal in overtime and gave the Killer Bees (5-3-0) their fourth straight victory. Missouri (2-6-1) finished 0-12 on the power play in the game, and continues to struggle with the man-advantage going 0-25 in the last four games.

Notes

Finally Home - The Mavericks will finally play a home game this Friday, November 13. Missouri started on the road for the first nine games, but will finally drop the puck at Independence Events Center against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 p.m. Friday. The Mavericks are the last team in the CHL to play a home game after the Allen Americans opened up the Allen Event Center last Saturday.

Eyeing 500 - Mavericks player/assistant coach Jeff Christian is just 3 goals shy of 500 in his career. The 20-year pro has 497 goals and 665 assists for 1,262 points in 1206 games played.

Streaks - Chad Hinz and Brett Hammond are each riding four-game point streaks. Hinz has four goals and two assists while Hammond has added two goals and two assists. Hammond has a point in all four of his games with the Mavericks.

Penalty Kill - The Mavericks are 2-0 this season when the team does not allow a power play goal. Missouri has allowed a power play goal in seven games, and is 0-6-1 in those games.

PP struggles - Missouri has not scored a power play goal in the last four games going 0-25 in that span. Overall, the Mavericks are 4-57 for a 7.02% conversion rate ranking 15th in the CHL.

Slow Starts - The Mavericks have scored the first goal in three of their nine games so far this season. In those three games, the Mavericks are 1-1-1.

North vs. South - The Mavericks record against the Southern Conference this season is 0-3-1. The Mavericks have lost to Odessa, Amarillo and Rio Grande Valley, however the Mavericks are 2-3-0 against the Northern Conference with both wins coming against the Wichita Thunder. Missouri plays their next eight games against Northern Conference opponents starting with two this weekend against the Thunder.

Box Office Now Open - The box office at Independence Events Center is officially open! Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 10 a.m. on Saturday game days. Tickets start at just $12 and are still available for opening weekend but going fast.
