Mavericks Set to Take Home Ice, Finally!
The Missouri Mavericks (2-6-1) head home to the new Independence Events Center on Friday night when they'll play their first home game. The Mavs will host the Wichita Thunder (2-6-0) in games on Friday and Saturday with capacity crowds expected. Missouri began the season on a nine-game road trip while their new facility was completed. The Thunder will be looking for revenge as the only two wins for Missouri came at the expense of Wichita on October 30th and 31st.
Stars and Stripes
This Wednesday is Veteran's Day and several CHL teams will be taking the ice during the Holiday and the Stanley Cup will be making an appearance. Lord Stanley will be on hand for the Allen Americans game at the Allen Event Center when they host the Texas Brahmas. Colorado's annual Military Appreciation Night will be Wednesday when they host the Amarillo Gorillas. Rapid City at Wichita and Rio Grande Valley at Laredo round out the Veteran's Day games.
Life of Riley
Riley Nelson may have had his goal streak stopped in the Eagles' sixth game of the season (at Amarillo) but he did rack up a pair of assists in Colorado's 4-2 win over the Gorillas making it six straight games that the veteran forward has recorded not only a point, but a multiple point game. Nelson has seven goals and seven assists in his six games this season for Colorado who is 5-0-1. Nelson started the season with goals in five straight games.
Strange Trend for 'Bugs
The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs are partaking in a very interesting trend to start the 2009-10 season. After Friday's and Saturday's losses at home to the Odessa Jackalopes, the Mudbugs are 0-5 at home this season. But after their win in Texas on Sunday, the 'Bugs are 4-0 away from the CenturyTel Center. At no time in the more than a decade of play for the team have they won four straight road games to start the season. Their five-game home losing streak ties a franchise record set in November of 2002.
