Fri., Feb. 24 vs. Idaho - 7:35 p.m., & Sat., Feb. 25 vs. Idaho - 7:05 p.m.| Home vs. IDH (0-0-0), Away vs. IDH (0-0-0)
The Mavericks enter this week's action trailing Idaho by eight points for third place in the Mountain Division and own one game in hand over the Steelheads. This weekend's back-to-back games present an opportunity to make up ground when Idaho comes to Independence for the first time ever. The Steelheads' visit to Missouri will be part of an eight-game road trip along with Utah and Rapid City. The Mavericks are 2-2-2 at home against Mountain Division opponents this season (14-9-2 overall) while the Steelheads enter play this week 7-9-3 on the road against the Mountain Division and 11-9-4 away from home overall. The Steelheads feature Anthony Luciani who is 15th in the league with 23 goals and rookie goalie Landon Bow who sports a 12-3-2 record.
Sun., Feb. 26 at Tulsa - 4:05 p.m., | Home vs. TUL (1-1-1), Away vs. TUL (3-2-0)
The Mavericks/Oilers rivalry has been played exclusively at BOK Center dating back to December 27 - a span that, including Sunday's contest will reach four games. The Mavericks grabbed control of the series with back-to-back wins in Tulsa on February 10 and 11. Eamon McAdam stopped 97 of the 100 shots he saw in the two games to help pave the way to victory for the Mavericks. The Oilers used a 5-0 win over Wichita last Sunday to snap out of a four-game losing streak. This week features just two games for the Oilers on Friday and Sunday, while the Mavericks will finish a three-in-three on Sunday.
Recapping Last Week
Sat., Feb. 18 vs. Quad City: W 2-1
The Mavericks earned their sixth consecutive win last Saturday in a 2-1 triumph over Quad City. Dane Fox and Andrew Courtney provided the offense with first-period goals while Josh Robinson stopped each of the 23 shots he faced in the win. Robinson left the game for 8:04 in the second period to have an injury attended to and did not record an official shutout. Full Recap >>>
Sun., Feb. 19 vs. Toledo: L 1-4
The Mavericks were within striking distance of the ECHL's top team throughout regulation despite surrendering the early lead. Darren Nowick pulled the Mavericks within one early in the second and Missouri out-shot Toledo 10-4 in the third. But the Walleye added two late insurance goals, including an empty-netter for the win. Full Recap >>>
Mavs Moments
- Darren Nowick's goal last Sunday against Toledo snapped the rookie's four-game goal drought. He is currently fifth in the rookie scoring race with 41 points and ranks seventh in goals (19) and 13th in assists (22). Nowick has been a steady presence in the Mavericks' lineup and is the only skater to have dressed in all 51 games thus far.
- Josh Robinson has won three of his last five starts for the Mavericks and has surrendered two goals or fewer in each of those three victories. Saturday's game was Robinson's first appearance without allowing a goal since Jan. 16, 2016 when he made three saves in just under eight minutes of relief work. Robinson did not receive credit for a shutout on Saturday since the Mavericks allowed a goal while he was being treated for an injury, and his last shutout was recorded Feb. 10, 2013 as a member of the Idaho Steelheads.
- Sunday's loss was Missouri's first in the month of February. They are 6-1-0 in February thus far and their next win will make it their winningest month of the season to date. February is Missouri's lightest full month of the season with 10 games, while March will be their second busiest with 13.
- When the Mavericks beat Wichita 7-6 in overtime on February 4, they finished a stretch of games where they combined with their opponent to score six or more goals in 10 consecutive contests. The Mavericks averaged 4.7 goals per game over that span and went 7-2-1. In the five games since then they have scored a combined six or more goals once, are averaging 2.4 goals per game and have a 4-1-0 record.
