Eagles Notch 12th Consecutive Win with 4-1 Victory
February 20, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
ANCHORAGE, AK. - Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders stopped 33 of Alaska's 34 shots to claim his 22nd win of the season, as Colorado collected its 12th straight victory in a 4-1 win over the Alaska Aces on Sunday. The 12-game winning streak now stands tied as the second-longest streak in Colorado Eagles history. The 2004-05 Eagles also rattled off 12 consecutive wins and went on to win the club's first CHL Championship later that season. Colorado finished the night going 2-for-4 on the power play, while posting a perfect 4-for-4 mark on the penalty kill.
Eagles forward Shawn St-Amant opened the scoring in the contest with a shot from the slot on the power play that beat Aces goalie Kevin Carr with 6:50 remaining in the first period of play, giving Colorado the 1-0 edge.
Colorado would continue its hot play on the man-advantage when forward Jackson Houck deflected a shot from the circle into the back of the net to stretch the Eagles lead to 2-0 at the 12:07 mark of the second period. Less than two minutes later, defenseman Michael Sdao would step into a slapshot at the blue line that would slice past Carr and give Colorado a 3-0 advantage. The goal was Sdao's seventh of the season and also served to chase Carr from the net, as the Aces goaltender gave way to Michael Garteig for the duration of the contest.
Alaska would finally jump on the board late in the third period when forward Yan-Pavel LaPlante dragged a puck across the top of the crease and threw the puck into the back of the net to trim Colorado's lead to 3-1 with 4:45 left in the final frame.
The Aces would pull Garteig in favor of the extra attacker, but it would be the Eagles who would make good with an empty-netter from forward Ryan Harrison to give Colorado the 4-1 lead with only 12 seconds left in regulation.
The Eagles return home to take on the Utah Grizzlies on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:05pm MT at the Budweiser Events Center.
Season tickets for the 2017-18 season can now be reserved with a $50 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468). A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
