INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - In front of their fourth sold out arena crowd on Pay What You Can Night, the Mavericks took a 5-4 victory over the Quad City Mallards in a 12-round shootout.

Colt King was the first on the board for the Mavericks, assisted by Mike Ramsay and Trevor Kell to give Missouri the 1-0 lead just before the 3 minute mark of the first period. Quad City's Thomas Frazee notched the equalizer for the Mallards unassisted to bring his team into the game.

The dream team struck again at the top of the second period, as Colt King, once again assisted by Mike Ramsay and Trevor Kell, gave the Mavericks a leg-up on the competition to make it 2-1 Mavs. On their first power play opportunity of the night, Eric Castonguay scored a power play goal assisted by Mike Ramsay, taking his third assist of the night. With only one minute left in the second period, Thomas Frazee would strike again for the Mallards, cutting the Mavericks lead to one 3-2.

Entering the third, the "Minute of Madness" did the trick to spur Andrew Courtney to score in the first 60 seconds of play, raising the Mavs to a 4-2 lead. Goals by Matt Boyd and Jeff Lee tied the game up and sent the match to a scoreless overtime, moving the decision on to the shootout.

Twelve rounds later, and two goals by John-Scott Dickson, the Mavericks were out on top with a 5-4 victory over the Mallards, who took their third shootout loss in a row.

The Missouri Mavericks made history as the first professional sports franchise to offer game tickets to the general public at whatever cost fans could afford. This special event the day before Thanksgiving, was aimed at providing less fortunate fans and their families, the opportunity to attend a professional hockey game.

The Missouri Mavericks teamed up with Community Services League, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, and the Independence School District to present the inaugural "Pay What You Can" game and offer low cost tickets to members of the community who have never have the opportunity to fall in love with the world inside a packed ice hockey arena and enjoy one of the greatest professional sports firsthand.

The Mavericks play their next home game on Friday, November 29 at 7:05pm against the Tulsa Oilers. The Mavericks won their last game against the Oilers 4-3 on the road in Tulsa.
