Quad City Mallards News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (November 27, 2013) - John-Scott Dickson scored two goals- including the game winner- in a dramatic 12-round shootout after the Missouri Mavericks' Colt King and the Quad City Mallards' Thomas Frazee- who also assisted on Jeff Lee's tying shorthanded goal late in the third period- scored two goals apiece in regulation and the host Mavericks claimed a wild 5-4 shootout win over the Mallards Wednesday night. The Mallards, who rallied from a 4-2 third period deficit, did earn one point from what was their third shootout setback in as many games and their fourth trip to the shootout in their last four outings.

Dickson converted both the second and twelfth Missouri penalty shots while Sebastien Thinel and Eric Castonguay also scored in the shootout for the Mavericks. Mike Hellyer, Vladimir Nikiforov and Benjamin Dieude Fauvel provided the Mallard shootout goals.

The Mallards, who created a series of chances to win the game in overtime only to be foiled by Missouri goaltender Shane Owen (32 saves), started their third period rally with Matt Boyd's goal from from the right wing circle at 8:01. Only 1:16 remained in regulation when Lee dramatically tied the score at four by roofing Frazee's centering pass.

The Mallards found themselves in need of multiple third period heroics after the Mavericks' Andrew Courtney scored from the right circle just 39 seconds into the period to widen what had been a 3-2 Missouri lead to a pair of goals.

The Mavericks had first build a two-goal lead in the second period. The scored was knotted at one until King pounced on a loose puck on the doorstep to score his second goal of the game and give the Mavericks a 2-1 advantage at 4:10 of the second. At 15:17 of the middle frame, the Mavericks were on the man advantage when Eric Castonguay buried a rebound to stretch the gap to 3-1. Frazee's second goal of the night- a wrap around- pulled the Mallards back within one with just 54 seconds left in the second.

It was King who had opened the scoring from close range at 2:47 of the first period but Frazee would reply for the Mallards by evening the score from a narrow angle at 5:29 of the first.

The Mallards return to action at home Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the St. Charles Chill. Friday is also a $1 Dog/$1 Beer Friday presented by 97X. Fans can purchase hot dogs and beer for $1 at iWireless Center concession stands during all Friday night home games.
