INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI (March 16, 2016)- The Missouri Mavericks clinched the ECHL Central Division title on Wednesday evening with a big 6-3 victory over the reigning Kelly Cup Champion Allen Americans. The Mavericks sit atop the league with an overall record of 47-8-3-2 and have already secured a berth in the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Steven Summerhays had an impressive night between the pipes for Missouri, stopping 29 shots on goal through a full 60 minutes of play and earning his third win in a Mavericks sweater. Andrew Courtney scored 2 goals for the Mavs in the win, and amateur forward, Darren Nowick, who was added to the Missouri roster just before the Wednesday night contest, scored his first professional goal and 2 assists in his pro debut for the Mavs.

The night started off in favor of the home team, with the Americans jumping out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Matt Register (7:29) and Gary Steffes (11:18, PPG). The Mavericks were able to cut in to the Americans' lead when Andrew Courtney knocked in a rebound past net-minder Riley Gill at 15:55 during a Missouri power-play. Darren Nowick and Sebastien Sylvestre were credited with the assists on Courtney's eighteenth goal of the season for the Mavs.

The Mavericks left the opening period with high intensity, and carried that momentum into the second frame with another two goals to take a 3-2 lead. First Courtney tallied his second goal of the night, with a backhand lamp-lighter assisted by Nowick and defenseman Chris Owens at 5:54, followed by Eric Neilson's second goal of the season at 12:18. Reed Seckel was credit with the lone helper on Neilson's mark.

Eric Roy ended the Mavericks goal streak, tying the game up once more at 14:46 while the Americans were on a power-play. Team Captain, Trevor Ludwig, earned back a lead the Mavs would not forfeit for the remainder of regulation with a top-shelf tally that bested Gill at in the final minutes of the second period during the Mavericks own man-advantaged situation. Rocco Carzo and Bryce Aneloski took the helpers on Ludwig's fourth goal of the season for Missouri.

The newest addition to the Mavericks lineup twisted the knife and made the scoreboard read 5-3 in favor of the visiting team when Nowick scored his first professional goal with just 19 seconds left in the period. Teammate Sebastien Sylvestre was credited with the lone assist.

Gill's night ended after the second frame, as he was replaced in goal by James Murray at the top of the final period. Murray stopped all 11 shots he faced between the pipes for the Americans, but was pulled from his crease for the final minutes of regulation in favor of an extra attacker, giving Josh Holmstrom the opportunity to tap in an empty-net goal (aided by Rocco Carzo) for a 6-3 Mavericks win.

The Mavericks play their next three games on the road, travelling to Tulsa, OK on Friday night for a 7:05p.m. match-up with the Tulsa Oilers at the BOK Center before back-to-back contests against the Wichita Thunder on Saturday (7:05p.m.) and Sunday (5:05p.m.) at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, KS.

Missouri returns home to Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on Wednesday, Mar. 23 when they will face-off against the visiting Evansville IceMen at 7:05p.m. Tickets for all Missouri Mavericks home games are available online at Ticketmaster.com and in-person at the arena box office.
