Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - A week after beating the Missouri 4-2, Allen once again hosts the Mavericks at the Allen Event Center. Missouri would best the Americans in this one, winning 6-3.
This is the first meeting between the Americans and Mavericks following the events leading up to the suspensions of Allen's Spencer Asuchak and Missouri's C.J. Ludwig. Jesse Root was injured as a result of a hit from Asuchak, while Aaron Gens was injured on a clipping call delivered by Ludwig. Both guilty parties were suspended until the final word came down from the league, which happened just yesterday. Asuchak will be suspended the next four games (slew foot), while Ludwig has been suspended for the next three games (clipping).
Allen started off on the right foot in the form of two unanswered goals. Coming off the sticks of Matt Register (7) and Gary Steffes (18-PP), the Americans seemed content with a 2-0 lead in the first period. However, one of the many penalties that the Americans took eventually came back to bite them. While Mike Gunn sat in the penalty box, Andrew Courtney (18) was able to cut the Allen lead in half, 2-1.
Allen was able to get another Power Play goal in the second period on a long shot from Eric Roy (12). That goal brought Allen back to a tie game against Missouri, which would not last very long. Missouri exploded for four goals in the second period. Goals from Courtney (19 - second on the night), Eric Neilson (2), Trevor Ludwig (4), and Darren Nowick (1). Missouri took a 5-3 lead into the second intermission.
Allen had a plethora of chances in the third period, especially on the man advantage, but was unable to convert on their opportunities. Josh Holmstrom would cash in on an empty Americans net to finish the game off.
The Americans don't have much of a break before the Alaska Aces make their first ever trip to the Allen Event Center on Friday, the 16th, at 7:05 pm.
