Colorado Eagles News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush exploded for four goals in the third period to knock off the Colorado Eagles 5-2 on Tuesday. Everett Sheen and Trent Daavettila scored the Eagles goals, with Sheen's marker coming short-handed.
Rapid City took advantage of a turnover in the Eagles zone late in the first period, allowing defenseman Jonathan Narbonne to center a pass from the right wing boards onto the tape of forward Zach Luczyk who would fire it into the back of the net to give the Rush a 1-0 lead with 4:59 remaining.
After a scoreless second period and Rapid City still leading 1-0, the Rush would start the third with a bang, scoring back-to-back goals just 40 seconds apart. Defenseman Ryan Misiak would double the Rapid City lead to 2-0 after stuffing in a cross-slot feed just 1:33 into the final frame. Shortly thereafter, defenseman Sean Erickson would unleash a slapshot from the top of the left circle that would beat Eagles goaltender Eric Levine and give the Rush a 3-0 lead with 17:47 still left to play in regulation.
With Colorado down by three and facing a penalty kill, forward Everett Sheen would steal the puck away at center ice and bury a shorthanded breakaway goal to slice the Rush lead to 3-1 with 14:34 remaining in the third.
Rapid City would generate a quick response when a 2-on-1 rush would set-up forward Lindsay Sparks to light the lamp with a wrister to give the Rush the 4-1 advantage at the 9:03 mark of the period.
The Eagles would not go away, as a shot from the blue line by defenseman Colin Joe would be tipped in front by forward Trent Daavettila and into the net to bring the Eagles back to within two at 4-2 with 6:44 left in regulation.
Colorado would pull Levine in favor of the extra attacker with just under three minutes to play, but Rush defenseman Brian O'Rourke would send a loose puck into the empty net from his own zone to seal Rapid City's 5-2 victory.
Colorado returns home to the Budweiser Events Center to face the Rush for the final time in the regular season on Wednesday, March 16th at 7:05pm.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
