Mavericks Announce Contract Extension for John-Scott Dickson

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks have signed head coach John-Scott Dickson to a two-year extension, announced Monday by Mavericks president and general manager Brent Thiessen.

Dickson is in his second year as Mavericks head coach and owns a record of 66-60-7-7 since taking over behind the bench.

"We are thrilled to announce that John-Scott will continue as our head coach for at least the next two seasons," said Thiessen. "He represents our organization in a first-class manner both on and off the ice and holds our players to a high standard. We firmly believe that he is the man to lead our team to our goal of a Kelly Cup."

Prior to earning his current role on the team, Dickson served as assistant coach during the Mavericks' Brabham Cup-winning season in 2015-16.

"First I would like to thank Brent and (team owner) Lamar Hunt, Jr. for their belief and support," said Dickson. "I also want to thank (assistant coach) Kyle Hood for all of his help. He has been an incredible asset for me and for the team and I'm excited to continue working with him in the future. Finally, thank you to (athletic trainer) Nick Potter, (equipment manager) Scott Eastman, (senior advisor to hockey operations) Matt Stephenson and (strength coach) Mike Kempkes for all of your hard work and dedication. Our success as a team is in large part because of the efforts of our entire staff and I would not be here without them.

I am honored to continue as head coach of the Mavericks and look forward to helping this organization meet its ultimate goal of a championship."

Prior to coaching, Dickson played four seasons with the Mavericks from 2011-12 through 2014-15, wearing the 'A' as an alternate captain in the Mavericks' first season in the ECHL.
