Mavs Minutes

Playoff Mentality

The Mavericks begin their de facto playoff tonight against the Tulsa Oilers, trailing Indy by two points and Kalamazoo by three with four games remaining in the regular season. Kansas City will have to take care of business and get some help along the way if it is to find its way into the playoffs.

VanWormer Hits Milestone

Jared VanWormer's two power play strikes on Friday at Indy moved him to a tie for the league lead in power play goals with 13 on the year, even with Kalamazoo's Josh Pitt. VanWormer also hit the 20-goal landmark, the fourth Maverick to accomplish that feat on the season as he joins Shawn Pauly, Mark Cooper and Matt Robertson.

Home Sweet Home

The Mavericks have enjoyed home ice lately, winners of six of their last seven home contests. Kansas City has beaten the Oilers in both home games this season, a Kids Day Game win on Nov. 14 by a 5-2 final score and a 4-3 shootout win on New Year's Eve.

Struck Oil

The Mavericks are riding an impressive streak against Tulsa into tonight's game, having emerged with two points in 10 of the teams' last 12 meetings. The Oilers got the better of Kansas City last time around but the Mavs have won five of the seven meetings this year.
