PRINCETON, N.J. - Former South Carolina Stingrays and Reading Royals' goaltender Philipp Grubauer of the Washington Capitals is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for March.

The leading distributor of game- worn hockey jerseys and "Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL," MeiGray has sold more than 7,500 jerseys since it became "The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL" in 2002-03.

The 26-year-old went 6-2-0 with one shutout, a 2.11 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage in nine appearances during the month. Grubauer allowed two goals or less in five of his appearances and made at least 28 saves five times. In 34 games with the"ˆCapitals this season, he is 15-9-3 with three shutouts, a 2.29 goals-against average and a save percentage of .925.

Selected by Washington in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2010 NHL"ˆEntry Draft, Grubauer earned a spot on the ECHL"ˆAll-Rookie Team with the Stingrays in 2011-12 posting a record of 23-13-5 with 2.22 goals-against average and a save percentage of .918. During the 2012-13 season, he represented Reading at the 2013 ECHL"ˆAll-Star Classic in"ˆColorado, and became the first player in ECHL"ˆhistory to appear in the All-Star Game and National Hockey League in the same season when he debuted with the Capitals on Feb. 27, 2013 at Philadelphia.

Grubauer has seen action in 100 career NHL games with the Capitals posting an overall record of 43-30-11 with six shutouts, a 2.27 goals-against average and a save percentage of .924. He went 55-39-5 with 11 shutouts, a 2.37 goals-against average and a save percentage of .919 in 105 career games with Hershey of the American Hockey League.

There have been 641 players who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL including 18 who have made their debut in 2017-18. The ECHL has had 446 players reach the NHL since 2002-03 when it changed its focus to become the primary developmental league for the NHL and the AHL. The ECHL had 97 players reach the NHL in its first 10 seasons and 215 in the first 15 years. There have been 385 ECHL players who have played their first game in the last 13 seasons for an average of more than 29 per year.
