Daniel Leavens scored at 1:03 of overtime to give the host Rapid City Rush a 4-3 victory over the Mallards.
Saturday, March 31
Quad City 5 Rapid City 4
Chris Izmirlian and Matt Pohlkamp provided a goal and an assist apiece as the Quad City Mallards ripped off five straight goals before holding off the host Rapid City Rush's comeback bid to claim a 5-4 victory.
QUACK TRACKS
Homecoming
The Mallards have returned home to play their final three games of the season this week.
Finale
Saturday's game is the Mallards' final ECHL contest. It was announced last month the team would cease operations after the season.
Rapid Return
The Mallards play a third straight game against the Rush Wednesday night after earning three of four available points last weekend in Rapid City.
Upswing
The Mallards have suffered just one regulation loss in their last five games, a stretch during which they have gone 3-1-1.
Narrow Margin
The Mallards' last five games and seven of their last eight contests have been decided by one goal. The Mallards' last five wins have all been one-goal victories. The Mallards have gone 15-8-5 in one-goal games this season.
Home Cooking
The Mallards have lost their last three home games. That skid is their longest home regulation losing streak this season.
Road Trip
With Saturday's win the Mallards completed a six-game road trip with a record of 3-2-1.
End of the Road
By winning their final road game Saturday, the Mallards finished the season with an away record of 9-26-1.
High Five
The Mallards scored five goals in Saturday's victory after scoring three goals or fewer in each of their prior 12 games. The Mallards scored more goals in that game than they did in any contest since defeating the Utah Grizzlies 7-6 in a shootout on March 2.
Overtime
The Mallards are now 2-4 this season in games decided in overtime.
O from D
Defensemen provided each of the Mallards' three goals Friday night. Jake Bolton and Travis Armstrong struck in the first period. Alexander Kuqali scored in the second. A fourth Mallard defenseman- Dmitry Osipov- also recorded a point Friday by assisting on Armstrong's goal.
Debut
Stanislav Dzakhov produced his first career point by collecting an assist while making his professional debut Friday. Dzakhov signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Mallards Thursday.
Firsts
Tommy Muratore scored his first career goal Saturday. Nick Bligh scored his first Mallard goal Saturday. Connor Reilly recorded his first Mallard point by assisting on Muratore's goal Saturday.
Army Strong
The goal Armstrong scored Friday was his first in the ECHL this season in 45 games split between the Mallards (29) and Adirondack Thunder (16). He did score five goals earlier in the campaign over sixteen Southern Professional Hockey League games with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.
49er
Jamie Tardif has recorded seven points (three goals and four assists) in his last seven games.
Pohl Position
Pohlkamp took over the team lead in points (40) and moved into a tie for the Mallard lead in goals (17) and power play goals (4) by scoring on the man advantage and adding an assist Saturday. Pohlkamp, who has produced five points (one goal and four assists) in his last five games, has pulled even with Brayden Low (who was traded to Allen last month) in total goals and with Low, Tardif, Tristan King and Sam Warning in power play goals.
Big Al
Alex Globke has registered five points (one goal and four assists) in his last five games.
Helping Hand
Willie Raskob collected two assist Saturday and now ranks second among ECHL rookies and tied for sixth among defensemen in assists (34).
Magnificent Magyar
Gergo Nagy departed the Mallards Thursday to join the Hungarian national team in advance of the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship (Division I), which is being held later this month in Budapest.
Between the Pipes
Eric Hartzell made 31 saves Saturday to earn his second straight win after going 0-8-0 over his first thirteen appearances for the Mallards.
Red Light District
The Mallards rank twenty-seventh in the ECHL in goals scored per game (2.7) and goals allowed per game (4.2). The Mallards (186) are one behind the Rush (187) in goals scored.
Outside the Box
The Mallards are the second least penalized team in the ECHL. They average 9.7 minutes in the box per game.
Special Teams
Pohlkamp ended a 0-for-15 Mallard power play drought Saturday. The Mallards have killed off their opponents' last ten advantages and 15 of their foes' last 16 power plays. The Mallards rank seventeenth in the ECHL on the power play (16.4 percent) and twenty-fifth in penalty killing (78.4 percent).
Head to Head
The Mallards Wednesday conclude their three-game, six-day season series with the Rush. All-time, the Mallards have gone 28-13-4 against the Rush overall and 15-5-1 at home against Rapid City. The Mallards won the only meeting between the two teams at the TaxSlayer Center last season 5-3 on February 4, 2017...The Mallards have gone 4-3-0 against Kalamazoo this season. The Mallards have gone 2-1-0 at home against the Wings. The Mallards have won four straight against Kalamazoo after the Wings won the first three games of the season series. The Mallards have scored at least five goals in each of their four wins over Kalamazoo after totaling five goals in their prior three meetings with the Wings combined. The Mallards have gone 9-7-3 overall against the Wings and 5-3-3 at home since the two clubs renewed their rivalry in 2015-16. Prior to that, the Mallards had not faced Kalamazoo since 2007. The Mallards and Wings competed against each other in the United Hockey League between 2000 and 2007. The Mallards went 24-19-7 in 50 meetings with the Wings over those seven seasons. They went 14-9-5 at home against Kalamazoo...The Mallards have gone 1-5-2 against Cincinnati this season and 1-1-1 at home against the Cyclones. All time they have gone 9-16-4 overall against Cincinnati and 3-8-1 against the 'clones on home ice.

The Mallards yesterday signed defenseman Tommy Muratore to a standard player contract after first signing an amateur try-out agreement March 22...Defenseman Greg Amlong (lower body injury) has missed the Mallards' last two games...The Mallards Thursday signed forward Stanislav Dzakhov to an amateur tryout agreement...The Mallards Thursday placed forward Gergo Nagy on the team's suspended list...Forward Kyle Novak was suspended for one game- Friday at Rapid City- after being assessed a match penalty Sunday against Tulsa...The Mallards Monday released forward Casey Shea from an amateur tryout agreement...Kyle Follmer (upper body injury) has missed the Mallards' last 14 games...Triston Grant was suspended for the Mallards' final 14 games (March 7-April 8) after being assessed a match penalty March 4 vs. Fort Wayne.

The Mallards will provide and array of giveaways and surprises for fans in attendance at the season's final game. One thousand Jimmy John's coupons will be given away to fans at the Jimmy John's table on the TaxSlayer Center concourse.

Fox Sports Radio 1230 is the radio home of Mallards Hockey Presented by Genesis Orthopedic Hospital. Mallards games broadcast on AM 1230 also stream live online at www.wfxn.net. A limited number of Mallards games will not air on Fox Sports Radio 1230 due to conflicts with University of Illinois basketball and football and Green Bay Packer football. ECHL-TV pay-per-view video webcasts and free audio webcasts of all Mallards games are also available at myqcmallards.net.

The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on game days from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the second period.
