Mississippi Braves News Release

The Mississippi Braves announce that Matt Wright was selected to represent the Mississippi Braves in the Southern League All-Star Game. Wright leads the Southern League with a 1.97 ERA and is tied for third in the league with seven wins. Gregor Blanco also had enough votes to play in the game before his promotion to AAA Richmond. Wright will be only the second Mississippi Brave to play in the game as Chuck James played in the annual game last year. Jeff Francoeur, Anthony Lerew, and Scott Thorman were all selected to play in the game last year, but were promoted prior to the game.

Matt Wright starts tonight and is attempting to become the first Mississippi Brave to win six consecutive decisions today. Wright has been outstanding since his return to AA Mississippi this year. He is 7-2 on the year with an ERA of 1.97. Wright leads the Southern League in ERA and is tied for third in the league in wins. Wright's the first Mississippi Brave to win seven games in '05 and the first Mississippi Brave ever to win five consecutive games. He has allowed more than two runs in a game only once this year. His attempt at six consecutive wins fell short as he allowed two runs on eight hits through seven innings on 6/22 at WTN. He didn't factor into the decision as the Braves lost 3-2 in 10 innings.
