Braves lose tough one in series finale

The Braves took a 2-0 lead in the third after Ray Serrano and Luis Hernandez drew walks to set the table. Yunel Escobar then doubled to left-center bringing Serrano to the plate giving Mississippi an early lead. Barbaro Canizares then grounded to short bringing Hernandez home with the Braves second run.

Birmingham came back in the seventh when the first four batters of the inning reached base. Pedro Lopez walked, Ricardo Nanita singled, Corey Smith doubled in Lopez, and Cory Aldridge singled in Nanita to make the score 2-2. Thomas Collaro then singled in Smith and Aldridge to give the Barons a 4-2 lead.

Braves' starter Matt Wright (6.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 8 K) gave up four runs and fell to 7-3 on the year. Jose Ascanio (2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K) threw two-plus scoreless innings.

Barons' starter Corwin Malone (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) improved to 8-5 on the season. BJ Lamura (2.0 IP, 3 K) threw two scoreless innings. Ehren Wasserman (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) threw a shutout ninth to record his 15th save of the year.

The Braves travel to Montgomery tomorrow night to face the Biscuits in game one of a five-game set. The Braves On Deck Circle powered by Nextel starts off the broadcast at 6:05 PM (CT) on SuperSport 930.
