Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY - Montgomery starter Tony Peguero fought through early control problems to one-hit Mobile over seven innings, as the Biscuits (5-5) took the rubber match of a five-game series from the BayBears (5-5), 6-0.

Peguero (8-7) threw 50 pitches through the first two innings, walking three batters in the process. Following the third walk, handed out to Drew Macias with one out in the second inning, he found his rhythm, retiring 14 batters in a row. Stephen Smitherman finally picked up the BayBears' first hit, lining a single to left to break up the no-hitter.

By that time, the Biscuits offense had given Peguero all the offensive support he needed.

Gabriel Martinez began the scoring with an RBI double in the first off of Mobile starter Jose Oyervidez (2-7), one of three hits in the game for the Montgomery first baseman.

In the sixth inning, the Biscuits added to their lead. Johnny Raburn led off with a triple and scored on a Wes Bankston double to left-center. Martinez followed by driving in Bankston with a single to left. Two batters later Jeremy Owens' cued grounder spun around BayBears first baseman Michael Johnson, plating Martinez with the third run of the inning.

In the seventh, it was Michael Coleman and Jason Pridie's turn to get into the act. Each man contributed a run-scoring single, bringing the Biscuits' lead to 6-0.

Jeremy Flanagan relieved Peguero for the final two innings, inducing a game-ending double play grounder from Michael Johnson to close out the afternoon matinee.

Montgomery's ten-game homestand continues on Thursday night as the Mississippi Braves come to town, beginning a five-game series. The opener is scheduled for a 7:05 pm start.
