New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Portland, Maine- Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka is expected to make a Major League rehabilitation start for the Portland Sea Dogs on Sunday, August 30th at Merchantsauto.com Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire in game one of a scheduled doubleheader at 4:05 PM against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays).
Matsuzaka, 28 years-old, has been sidelined since June 21st with a right-shoulder strain. In eight games with the Red Sox this season, Matsuzaka has posted a 1-5 record with an 8.23 ERA. In 2008, he set a career high in wins notching an 18-3 record with a 2.90 ERA. He was named both the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic MVP pitching for Japan. The Tokyo, Japan native was signed by the Red Sox on December 14, 2006.
Originally slated to start Saturday, August 29th for the Sea Dogs in Manchester, Matsuzaka's start was pushed back to Sunday due to weather concerns in New England with the remains of Tropical Storm Danny. The move also coincides with a switch in the Fisher Cats' schedule. Because of the storm, the Fisher Cats changed today's scheduled doubleheader to a single game at 7 tonight. Sunday will feature a doubleheader, consisting of two seven inning games, starting at 4:05 PM. Sea Dogs' left-handed pitcher Kris Johnson will start for the Sea Dogs on Saturday, August 29th.
