(Manchester, NH) - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (60-72) used a 4-run third inning off LHP Kris Johnson (0-2) and held on to beat the Portland Sea Dogs (62-69) 7-6 on Saturday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Portland has lost both games in the series and fall to 2-3 on their 8-game roadtrip.

RHP Trystan Magnuson (1-0) earned his first Double-A win, working 2.2 scoreless innings on two hits and three strikeouts. Johnson, who suffered his 9th loss in his last 10 outings between Pawtucket and Portland, yielded nine hits, seven runs (six earned), one walk, but fanned seven over 4.1 innings pitched. Portland struck for two runs in the ninth inning on 3B Jorge Jimenez's 2-out homer to right field off RHP Danny Farquhar, who fanned three in the inning to earn his 12th save of the season.

New Hampshire scored twice in the first inning off Johnson. LF Todd Donovan led off with a walk and scored on a triple by CF Darin Mastroianni. 2B Brad Emaus delivered a sacrifice fly to centerfield, giving the ‘Cats a 2-0 lead. Portland came right back in the top of the second inning, receiving solo-homers by C Luis Exposito and RF Jason Place.

The Fisher Cats were aided by two Portland errors in the third inning as they scored four times to grab a 6-2 lead. Donovan led off the frame by reaching on an error by SS Yamaico Navarro and stole second base. Mastroianni singled to left field but the ball was bobbled by LF Daniel Nava, enabling Donovan to score and Mastroianni to take second base. After Mastroianni stole second base, 2B Brad Emaus delivered a sacrifice fly, 1B David Cooper singled and RF Nick Gorneault blasted a 2-run homer to right field. New Hampshire took a 7-2 lead in the fifth inning on a run-scoring double by 3B Al Quintana to knock Johnson out of the game.

In the seventh inning, CF Ryan Kalish smacked a run-scoring double in the seventh inning and Jimenez produced an RBI groundout to cut New Hampshire's lead to 7-4.

RHP Chad Rhoades and RHP Bryce Cox closed out the game with 3.2 scoreless frames on one hit and three strikeouts.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats play a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon beginning at 4:05 PM from Merchantsauto.com Stadium. RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka is expected to make a Major League rehab assignment for Portland in game one.
