Atlanta United FC News Release

ATLANTA - Atlanta United returns to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday to open the 2023 MLS season against San Jose Earthquakes. The match, presented by Mercedes-Benz, is set to kick-off at 7:30 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on MLS Season Pass, while fans can also tune-in to radio calls on 92.9 The Game and La Mejor.

MLS Season Pass will feature every match of the regular season and Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with consistent match times and no blackouts. The service will also feature MLS Countdown, the live pre-game show before every match, live halftime reports, MLS 360 -- a fast-moving whip-around show that will provide live look-ins and analysis from all the key moments from every match, and MLS Wrap-up, the live post-game show. All matches will feature commentary in English or Spanish, while matches involving Canadian teams will also have French commentary. Fans in the U.S. and Canada will also have the option to select their home team's radio for broadcast audio on the Apple TV app where available.

Atlanta holds a 3-0-0 all-time record against San Jose: 2-0-0 at home and 1-0-0 on the road in the series. This is the first meeting between the two teams since Sept. 21, 2019, a 3-1 win by Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta will look to build on an attack that finished first in MLS in 2022 in possession (57.2 %), key passes (386), shots (540) and dribble success rate (56.7 %) but tied for 13th with 48 goals scored.

Atlanta's duo of Brooks Lennon and Thiago Almada finished third and fourth in MLS in chances created per 90 minutes with 3.05 and 3.03 in 2022. Almada, who became the first active MLS player to win the World Cup in Qatar, led the club with 12 assists in his first season and was named the 2022 MLS Newcomer of the Year.

Luiz Araújo led the team with six goals during the preseason and will look to carry that form into the MLS campaign.

San Jose enters 2023 under new manager Luchi Gonzalez, who holds a career MLS record of 28-29-25 over four seasons. The Earthquakes return their top scorer in Jeremy Ebobisse (17 goals) and top creator in Cristian Espinoza (14 assists) from 2022.
