Marlies Win First Home Game Last Weekend; Host Monsters on Saturday

Nazem Kadri led the Marlies on Saturday to their first home victory of the season with two goals and two assists. Kadri was named the game's first star in Toronto's 5-2 win over Oklahoma City. Kadri currently ranks third in the American Hockey League in rookie scoring.

What You Need To Know About The Toronto Marlies...

- On Friday the Marlies announced that Alex Foster has been selected as the team's new captain. Foster, 26, becomes the third captain in team history, succeeding Ben Ondrus.

- Nazem Kadri had his biggest game of the season on Saturday, posting four points (two goals, two assists). Kadri was named the game's first star in the Marlies win over Oklahoma City and also notched a plus-three rating.

- Brayden Irwin had his four-game point streak snapped on Sunday afternoon when he was held pointless. Irwin registered three assists in the Marlies 5-2 win on Saturday.

- Kadri and Irwin both rank in the top-10 in rookie scoring in the AHL. Kadri's seven points (three goals, four assists) ranks third (tie) in the league; while Irwin's six points (two goals, four assists) ranks tied for sixth.

- Joey Crabb scored his first goal as a Marlie on Saturday against the Barons. He finished the night with two goals and an assist, earning second star honours.

- Goaltender James Reimer has won his past two starts for the Marlies. During that stretch he's recorded a 0.927 save percentage and 2.51 goals against average.

- Justin Hodgman skated in his first game of the season on Saturday and notched a goal and an assist. The following day, Hodgman scored two of Toronto's three goals in their loss.

- Greg Scott has tallied an assist in three of his past four games.

- Dale Mitchell has recorded an assist in each of his two games that he's skated in this season.

Last Week:

The Marlies won their first game at Ricoh Coliseum this season on Saturday against Oklahoma City, 5-2. Nazem Kadri and Joey Crabb each scored two goals to lead the way. Justin Hodgman skated in his first game of the season and notched a goal and an assist. Keith Aulie led all skaters with a plus-four rating. James Reimer picked up the win, making 31 saves.

Former Marlies captain Ben Ondrus returned to Toronto for the first time since signing with Edmonton over the offseason.

On Sunday the Marlies fell into a 4-0 deficit in the first 14 minutes of the game and couldn't battle back as the Griffins beat Toronto, 6-3. Hodgman scored twice and Darryl Boyce added a third period goal while shorthanded. Jussi Rynnas suffered the loss, making 19 saves on 24 shots.

UPCOMING OPPONENTS

The Marlies travel down the QEW to take on their division rivals, the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday night. The game will be Toronto's second road game of the season, both against the Bulldogs. The Marlies fought back from a two-goal deficit to rally past the Bulldogs 5-3 in their last meeting. Darryl Boyce scored the game- winner in the third period. Toronto holds a 33-25-3 all-time record versus Hamilton.

The Marlies host the Lake Erie Monsters on Saturday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. It will be the first of eight meetings between the two division rivals. The Monsters will play their next eight games at home after Saturday's matchup. Last year the Marlies went 5-3-0 against the Monsters and out-scored them 26- 25. Lake Erie ranks fifth in the North Division with a 3-4-0-1 record for seven points.

Reading Report:

The Reading Royals played their home opener on Saturday evening, dropping a 7-2 decision to the Elmira Jackals. On Sunday, the Royals lost again to the Jackals, 3-2. Ben Scrivens turned aside 36 saves on 39 shots and was the game's second star. Reading's record through four games is 1-3-0.
