Atlanta Goalie Pavelec Joins Wolves for Conditioning in Three-Player Swap

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned goaltender ONDREJ PAVELEC to the Chicago Wolves for conditioning. In addition, Atlanta has recalled defenseman NOAH WELCH and goaltender PETER MANNINO from the Wolves.

PAVELEC saw just 2:25 of action in the Thrashers' first game of the season against the Washington Capitals on Oct. 8, before suffering a type of fainting spell and subsequent concussion. The 23-year-old goaltender, who began his professional career in Chicago and backstopped the Wolves to the Calder Cup Championship as a rookie in 2008, has accrued a 20-28-7 record with a 3.32 goals against average and .902 save percentage in 62 career National Hockey League outings with Atlanta from 2007 to 2010.

The Kladno, Czech Republic, native posted a 51-36-5 record, 2.69 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in 92 career regular-season outings with the Wolves from 2007 to 2009, and set a franchise record with 16 postseason wins in helping the Wolves to the 2008 title.

WELCH has appeared in all seven of the Wolves games this season and dished out two assists in the team's 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals on Sunday. The 28-year-old blueliner recorded five points (G, 4A), 33 penalty minutes in 37 games with Chicago last season, and has amassed nine points (4G, 5A) and 58 penalty minutes in 73 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2005-07), Florida Panthers (2007-09) and Tampa Bay Lightning (2008-09).

The Brighton, Mass., native also has notched 17 goals, 49 assists, 66 points and 191 penalty minutes in 166 career AHL matchups with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (2005-07), Rochester Americans (2006-07; 2008-09) and Wolves.

MANNINO, who was reassigned to Chicago yesterday, was recalled by Atlanta on Oct. 11 and appeared in one contest during his time with the Thrashers, stopping 15 of 16 shots in 38:26 of relief duty on Oct. 22 vs. Tampa Bay. The 26-year-old netminder has not appeared in any games with Chicago this season. Last year, he shared 10th in the American Hockey League with a career-high 26 victories (26-5-1) and tied for third in the league with a .921 save percentage in 38 outings with the Wolves.

The Farmington Hills, Mich., native has appeared in four career NHL games with Atlanta and the New York Islanders and notched a 1-1-0 record with a 3.85 goals-against average and .893 save percentage.

PAVELEC will join the Wolves when they take on the Oklahoma City Barons at the Allstate Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
