
Admirals Return Home for a Nautical Battle

NORFOLK, Va. - After a week away from Hampton Roads, the Norfolk Admirals (5-2-0-0) return home for a maritime matchup against the Atlantic Division-leading Portland Pirates (6-2-0-0) on Friday and Saturday at Scope.
Last week, the Admirals endured a four-games-in-five-nights road trip throughout the Northeast. In Hartford on Wednesday night, five different Admirals lit the lamp in a 5-1 victory over the Wolf Pack. The Admirals allowed three power play goals and suffered their first defeat of the 2010-11 campaign on Friday night in a 3-2 loss at the hands of the Syracuse Crunch. In Albany on Saturday night, Blair Jones recorded a goal and two assists and the Admirals scored three power play goals in a 3-2 win over the Devils. To wrap up the trip, Johan Harju scored two goals, but the Admirals fell short to the Worcester Sharks 4-3 on Sunday.
The Admirals will take a few days off before returning to Scope for what will be another thrilling weekend of hockey. This weekend's matchup against the Portland Pirates marks the return of former Admiral Mark Parrish to Scope. The puck drops Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 7:15 p.m. Friday, all fans will receive a 2010-11 Admirals Magnetic Schedule, courtesy of ITAC. EAST DIVISION STANDINGS
At 5-2-0-0 (10 points), the Admirals are in second place in the American Hockey League's East Division. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (6-0-0-0, 12 pts.) lead the division. Trailing the Admirals are the Hershey Bears (4-2-0-1, 9 pts.) The Syracuse Crunch (3-2-0-1) and Binghamton Senators (3-3-0-1) tied for third place with seven points. The Albany Devils (2-1-0-0) are in sixth place with six points, while the Adirondack Phantoms (2-6-1-0, 5 pts.) are in seventh place and the Charlotte Checkers (2-6-0-0, 4 pts.) in eighth place.

NORFOLK NOTES:
- Norfolk began a season with wins in each of its first four games for the first time in its AHL history.
- The Admirals are averaging an AHL-best 4.29 goals scored per game.
- Norfolk's average of only 2.29 goals allowed per game is the fifth-best in the AHL.
- Blair Jones has points in five straight games (2G, 6A).
- Admirals goaltender Cedrick Desjardins has lost back-to-back decisions in regulation for the first time since last November while he was with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
- Admirals Hall of Famer Rick Kowalsky, who was named Albany Devils head coach last summer, coached in his first game against his former team. Kowalsky played for the Admirals (1994-95 - 1999-2000, 2001-02) and was an assistant coach with the team for the 2005-06 season. He was inducted into the Admirals Hall of Fame last February.
ADMIRALS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Blair Jones: 4GP, 2G, 4A, 6PTS
Center Blair Jones led Norfolk and was tied for the AHL lead in scoring last week with six points. Jones netted the game-winning goal Wednesday in Hartford in a 5-1 Admirals victory over the Wolf Pack. On Friday in Syracuse, Jones assisted on Norfolk's lone goal in a 3-1 loss to the Crunch. The next night, Jones had a part in all three Norfolk goals with a goal and two assists in a 3-2 road victory over the Albany Devils. On Sunday in Worcester, Jones recorded an assist to spark a third period comeback attempt in an eventual 4-3 loss to the Sharks.
Jones ranks second on the Admirals in scoring with ten points and his four goals are tied for the team lead. Jones is also tied for seventh in the AHL in scoring. He has points in each of his last five games (2G, 6A) and in six of seven games so far this season.
